Feliz Natal

Saturday December 17, 2016

Heyooo Family!!!!
Hope everyone is having a super very
merry jolly holly Christmas season. Tis the time of the year!!!
What a cool thing we get to have every year to celebrate
the Saviors birth!

This week was fantastic. Lots going on and goes by fast. I looked
at the date this morning and I was like what??? It´s already the 17th?
Think my calender must be wrong. Last Sunday was really cool.
We had a conference where all of Brazil particapated. We got
to here some of the 70´s speak and also Elder Jeffery Holland.
The thing was, all of the talks were in portuguese which was really
cool. Then Jeffery R. Holland got up to speak. He started speaking
Portuguese... I was like NOOOO WAYYYY. It was awesome. He just did the first
part in Portuguese then switched to English and a translater translated it.
He gave a great talk. In the end it switched to him again and he bore his testimony in
Portuguese. It was really powerful. I love listening to apostles speak because there is
always a special power behind their words.

Today we also have the baptisms of Auxiliadora and Edwarda.
They have been working towards baptism for a long time! I'm so excited for them!
Sorry I haven't been sending pics but where I am I cant:( but dont worry I'm taking lots!

Really love this season and the chance we have to remember the Savior.
There really is nothing better to celebrate that  He is our Redeemer and we
are nothing without him. I love him for that and what he has done for me!
So remember him this time of year and what he did for you and share
that light with others.

Love ya ALLLLL!!

On The First Day Of Christmas

Saturday December 10, 2016

Hey Fam!! Hope everyone is great!! I hear i'ts pretty cold there in Utah!
I hope it's snowing alot there to make up for the snow that doesn't exsist
here in Fortaleza! It's funny, everyone here always asks about snow and
how it is. They all want to play in it, it's everyones dream. The best thing is when
you tell people they can eat it they freak out and are like NOOO WAYYY!

This week was great though, sure did pass by fast! Holy cow! It's really hot here now.
We are entering summer time and it's just burning here! This week wasn't too adventful
but it was still good. The mission office is all decorated for Christmas, so when you stand
in front of the air conditioner going full blast it feels a little like Christmas. I also made a whole
bunch of paper snow flakes for the mission office and all the Brazilians thought they
were pretty cool. President wanted me to teach him how to make them! haha!

This week we have been working hard to try to find new people to teach too!
Always searching for new people here. I'm excited for this time of year because
here, everyone believes in Christ so Christmas is a great oppurtunity to
teach people about the Savior and His love for them. I'm so glad I get to be here
and have the chance I have to serve the Lord. I know He lives! I am a witness!
I love him and what He has done for me!
Love ya all! <3

:)

December 3, 2016

Hey friends!

This week was great! Wow I can't believe how crazy it was though! It was the craziest thing ever!!
This week was transfers so as you could imagine the mission office was a hip and happening place! It's crazy how much really goes on behind closed doors. There's so much planning that
goes on.. But it was successful! All the missionarys are in their new areas and safe!!
We recieved the new missionarys in the mission too! There was a lot of problems
with their visas and stuff so I had to get that all worked out last week. I've never talked to
so many people in my life! I think I was seriously on the phone for a day straight.
At one point I think I was on two phones speaking portuguese in one and in english on the other! haha! Crazy week!

We also had something cool happen yesterday too! So after a long week figuring everything
out and getting everyone situated we finally got down to the good work! Last night we had an interview marked for one of our investigators named Davi. We showed up in the chapel and were waiting there for a little while. He showed up so we went up stairs and he had his interview.
When he came out he was like.. "Can I be baptized today??" We were like ya you could.. but I think it would be better in the morning for when we had it marked. Then he was like "No I want to get baptized today!" We were like okay... then lets do this! One of the members from the bishopric was there with me and Elder Soper. We had a little reunion and did the baptism! It was probably the most unexpected thing I've ever done! Sometimes you work so hard to help people work towards baptism
and it's so hard, then sometimes people are just like BAPTIZE ME TODAY!!!!!

Always love being part of this work! I know there's nothing better I could be doing!!!
Love the gospel!!! It's true!!

Feliz dia das Gracas!

Saturday November 26, 2016

Hey everyone! Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope everyone ate plenty of turkey and mashed potatoes this Thanksgiving.

This week was pretty eventful lots of things happening! I took someone to the airport for the first time which was cool. It was crazy though just about everything you could imagine went wrong with his ticket. I'll spare the details...it's a long story and he almost missed his flight.. but he made it!! Whooo hoo! I got a little reminder on the power of prayer in our lives this week. I really thought we wouldn't be able to do anything and he would have to go home the next day, which wouldn't of been a huge deal in the end. But, when we were there trying to figure it out I just said a little prayer that everything would work out and we could do something. Not long after, it worked out and he could get his ticket. It might of not been the biggest thing but God is always listening and he wants to help us. He is waiting for us. It could be anything, but we can always pray to him and he is ready to help.

Thankgiving was great too. I started out the day going to a house with Elder Rocha to fix a washing machine. We had to take the motor out. It's always fun getting a little dirty. We got to the point to get it out and it wouldn't budge. We were just beating the heck out of it but it wouldn't move. We tried everything, pulling, pushing, and even poured oil on it but nothing happened. In the end we ended up with a broken hammer which was sad, but later in the day we got it!  HAha ( Just reminded me working in the garge with dad was kinda fun) Then later we just had the normal rice and beans for lunch. It was still a great thanksgiving though.

Sunday was a great day!
We had the baptism of Manuela! That was a pretty great day. It was pretty funny
though, that day was the primary program so we got to hear from the primary
kids in sacrament meeting. Brazil sure puts on a good show! After church was her baptism!
Right before the baptism she started getting super nervous though, she has a fear of drowning
so that was great. We had some young women from the ward help her out and she finally got into the water. When we were in the water I thought she was going to rip my arm off because she
was squeezing it so tight. I'm really suprised she didn't pass out. She was pretty nervous.
She did it though. We were all so happy for her. Later that night we passed by to teach her, and we had a pretty cool experience. We asked her what she felt after she got baptized. She said three things, Peace, love, and she felt clean, perfectly clean. Everything she had ever done wrong just disappeared. She was so happy even though she was so nervous she felt great after. So cool to hear the testimony of people after they are baptized. Love how real the gospel is and how we have the chance to repent. Not only once though. We have this chance every week when we take the sacrament. Every week we can be perfectly clean again and start new.

Love being here everyday is the best!

Love ya allllllll!!!

Mias um (Another)

Nov. 19, 2007

Dear Everybody,

I hope all your lives are fantastic back in the States,
I hear by now there is a wall all the way
around the border so I may never be able to get to the United States...
 But it's okay! This week
was pretty good! The week started out pretty crazy. So Saturday was great ...
every thing was going great, we talked to so many people and they
were all excited to go to church. Then Sunday came around and everything
was perfect. We had so many people at church and our baptism was ready.... twas a happy day.
Then we went to turn on the baptism font and nothing.
What? No water? What the heck? The chapel didn't have any water so we had
to delay our baptism until this week, but she's getting baptized in the morning!!!
YAY! Would have been an easy solution if we were Catholics but hey.. Baptism by emersion.

It's been busy this week though, Elder Wade and Elder Davies
got transfered so now I don't have anybody training me in the office,
I'm all alone, I'm a big boy now.:) Also got to travel a little bit. On Wednesday
I went with Elder Flores to go sign a contract for some house. Then after the
Sisters that live in that house gave us peanut butter, so my stomach was happy that day.

Time here is flying by. I feel like I just need to run a hundred miles an hour
to teach all the people I want. I love teaching the people that are truley ready
to hear the Saviors call. This week I'm still studying in 3 Nephi when the Savior
visits. He makes it so clear in his words. The Book of Mormon really is another
testament of Jesus Christ. The truth you'll find in that book is more than you could
search for and find in 100 lifetimes. The love for the Savior is indescribable.
He cried for the children. Imagine  how much he loves each and every one of us.
Being a missionary is awesome!
Being able to tell people how much the Savior loves them.

Love you all!!!

Let's Make America Great Again

November 12, 2016

Hey everyone! I hope everything is going great in America! From what I here from all the drunk people in the street... I hear we have a new president. All the drunk people know everything
about politics here. I think they would be really good lawyers.
They don't let any news pass by them.
This week was great as always! Me and Elder Wade are pretty much killing it.
It's awesome being with him. The work is going great, and we have a baptism this week,
and 3 more marked for next week! aaaa!
Even though we have like three hours per day to teach we are doing good.
This week we found a family. Me and Elder Wade were walking
down the street and some girl on the corner yelled "HELLO!"
in english, so we went over and talked to her. Her mom was sitting
outside the house selling stuff so we started talking a little with her too.
We left a pamphlet there and told them to read it. When we came
back later in the week the daughter had read everything and even
made a little paper with a summary of the pamphlet .
That night we taught them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
They accepted baptism dates for next week which is exciting.

I've been reading in 3 Nephi lately and it is just awesome!
When Jesus Christ comes to the Americas and visits the people.
One thing I've been thinking about a little was one thing he said,
he said he came to fufill the law, not to destroy it. But what He's talking
about there is the law of Moses. Then he says those that come to
me with a broken heart and contrite spirit will recieve the kindom of heaven.
I just think sometimes we take things for granted in our lives.
Really the gospel is so simple, we don't have to do a billion things,
this and that, but we just have to love God and keep the commandments.
When we do this, our lives will be so much easier, simpler and happier.
The gospel is awesome and so simple. I love it.

Love all of you, and appriciate all the letters I receive.
I can really feel everyones love for me!!

Another Day Another Dollar

October 17, 2016

Hey everyone!! Hope everyone is doing great!!
Hope everyone is loving life!!

This week was great... obviously! I didn't get the chance to email last week
but this week I have time so wooohooo! This week has flown by. I feel
like I haven't even had time to think! We have transfers in the morning!
I got a new assignment!!! I'm going to be the Executive Secretary of the mission!! haha!!
I'll be moving areas in the morning to the rich part of Fortaleza called Aldeota.
So for now i'll have two American Companions!! YA America!! I was I little nervous
when I first saw my assignment but I know the lord doesn't do anything unplanned so
i'll be blessed!

Me and Elder Grossi have been working so hard here! This past week we have been
really going at it! He's such a cool kid though and we get along so well, I dont think i've ever met
a funnier Brazilian in my life! I've learned so much here in Granja Portugal about everything!
So much about myself ,so much about people, so much about the gospel. I don't think I could ever
replace the experiences i've had here with anything else! I LOVE MY LIFE!

Love ya all!!!!!

POP ITS

October 3, 2016

Hey Everyone!! Hope life is glorious!

This week was Great, and it really passed by fast!  What the heck
it's like halloween already! General Conference was this week! Having general conference on the mission is the best thing ever! It"s like Christmas! So many treasures to discover!
Saturday and Sunday we met with our zone in the stake center and got to watch conference!
The cool think is I got to watch 2 sessions in English too! Sunday the secratary of the stake set up a t.v. in a class room and all the Americans had a little English conference party which was fun. Watching in portugese is great be I prefere the voice of the prophet:)

One thing I really loved was Elder Neilson's talk about JOY! It was a great reminder for me!
Sometimes I feel like we forget why we are here and what we are doing, but this life is meant to be enjoyed too. Life isn't just homework and work a 80 year period to slave your life away, but we are here to enjoy it! SO DO IT! ENJOY LIFE PEOPLE!! LOVE LIFE!! If your not enjoying it, change something! We find true joy in the savior and his sacrifice for us. This is the true source of lasting joy! We cannot find this anywere else! He's my Joy! I know that! Love you All!!

Germany and Africa

September 26, 2016

Hey everyone! I hope life is great!

This week was fantastic down here in Brazil! The only thing is that everyone thinks I'm
German and my companion is African. People will yell at me when I walk down the street..
"Hey Germany!!" This week I also went on two divisions which was cool. I was with Elder Latão
for one and Elder Lambert on the other. Elder Latão is from the North of Brazil. It's funny how fast he talks, he's faster than a formula one racer!

This week Katia was baptized!!! I'm so happy for her! She drank so much coffee everyday but ever since we taught The Word Of Wisdom she put an end to that! She was excited for baptizm!
It's great to see peoples lives change!

Next week is conference  too!! I'm so excited! What a cool thing it is to have the chance to hear from prophets of God that receive revalation for our days! The prophet today is no different as in times of old. It's so cool to teach this everyday, to tell people we have a prophet today that lives, and can recieve revalation to help us and guide us!
 Selfie!!
Baptism of Katia.

This week was good and we are having a good time here in Brazil!

 Love you all!

Taller

September 19, 2016

Heyyya people!

Hope everyone is great! This week was definitely an adventure!
It seems like Monday is just a lucky day, around 4 oclock the phone always seems
to ring with news on the other side. Last Monday it was an emergency transfer!
So now I have a new companion named Elder Grossi here in the same area. Elder Rocha my child
was transfered to the mission office, he will now be a secretary there! haha. The only weird thing is Elder Grossi is taller than I am... weird and he's Brazilian too. So now I am no longer the tallest person in Brazil.

This week we have been working alot with our investigator Katia. She has been working really hard this week to not drink coffe. She has been doing so good and is preparing for baptizm! Her baptizm is marked for this Saturday which is so exciting!

We also talked to some funny people this week. We knocked on a door and some young adult/ kid answered the door. I said "Hey Brother, how are you?" He than responded fastly "FIRST DONT CALL ME BROTHER! ITS A FAULT OF RESPECT, AND SECONDLY MY NAME IS RAFIELE!" He then tried to be all intimidating cracking his knuckles and I said " Are you happy today?" he said he wasn't happy... big suprise! But we invited him to church so it's all good! People here are funny.

I've been reading in Alma this week and it's awesome! The love they have for their brothers and sisters that are lost, and how much Alma and his brothers trust in the Lord! Always rememeber to trust the Lord, he will always help you and you will be happy!!

Love you all

September 12, 2016

Hey Everyone!!!
Hope everyone is doing fantabulous!!

This week Me and Elder Rocha got to see a couple miracles!
We have been working so hard
to find new investigators and fasting and it really paid off!!

This week we have been teaching a women named Katia!
She is a middle aged women we found making a contact with in the road. She takes care of her mom that has parkinson disease. She is Catholic but was really open to our message! We taught her a lot this week. She feels what she is doing is right but still has doubts. We have focused a lot on the Book of Mormon with her. As I have been reading the Book of Mormon lately  the stories have really came to life, and I have been able to feel the power too. So we have been really focusing on the Book of Mormon. I know through the Book Of Mormon people lives can change and people can come to know God!

This week we also taught alot with Bruno a member in our Branch. He is seriously the coolest person I have ever taked to! He's blind but that doesn't stop him from anything. He knows how to do more stuff than normal people. haha!!  But I love bringing him with us because people really listen when he talkes and we can really enter any house with him.

We also got to do a little march thing in the street with our branch as a service project on Wednesday telling people about the danger of misquitos. The only bummer was one of the members got his car stolen when we were out doing it... Brazil.

This week was awesome i love being out here! Love you all!!

Setembro

Hey fam!! And friends!!!
It's already September! What the heck, where has time gone???
This week is the week of transfers!! I'll be staying here in
Granja Portugal with my companion Elder Rocha!
If you want to see my house look up Rua Jose Abilio
1449 Granja Portugal Fortaleza Ceara Brasil!
Our house is pretty beautiful! Also got a envelope with
like a million letters from all the cousins this week!
Thanks guys I feel loved!

This week we had a conference  with Elder Lima of the 70!
It was pretty awesome. He gave a really good talk!
One thing that I really liked is he talked about how we are the lords angels,
and since we are, we need to live like angels too.
We need to be the angels in the lives of others.
He talked about the importance of obedience too!
Let us be 100% obedient!

I've been reading in Alma lately  and I love the story Amon,
and how he was able to teach so many people.
The important thing is he didn't just show up and start preaching
but he was an example and friend to everyone.
I thought about this latley. I need to be as better friend.
Let us all be better friends in this world, examples,
let people see the light of Christ in your eyes!
The light of Christ needs to be shared with this
world so don't be afraid to step out of your confort zone!!

Love you guys so much and love life!!!

August 29,2016

Hey everyone!!!

This week was gggreat!! It's fun to finally speak Portuguese
and know what everyone is saying!
This week I got to go on splits with Elder Soper.
I always like to go on splits and learn new things with other missionaries.
It's also funny when your with other Americans because people
will just talk about you right in front of your face and they
don't think we can understand them.
The funny thing is.. we know what they are saying, so that just makes it awkward.
Also just about everybody here thinks I am German...
What the heck people I'm AMERICAN and I sure am proud to be one.
When I was on splits with Elder Soper we just rolled
with it so I was german for a day which was pretty fun.

This week was a little hard as far as the teaching goes.
We haven't found any new investigators for a while now,
so this week we will do alot of searching!
But the good news is Caiu was baptized this week!
I think as adults we could have a couple things we could learn from children.
They are always so ready to listen and will ponder and think about whatever you say.
I think lots of times in our lives we get so caught up in
the grove of things we never take time to stop and listen.
We all just need to take time in our lives to pause
for a moment and think about what we are doing.
When we do this God can speak to us through the Holy spirit.
Never forget that. So take time every day, stop read your scriptures
and say your prayers and God will talk to you. It's so cool being here everyday
its different but awesome!!!

We have transfers next week so I'm
excited to see what will happen!!

I LOVE YOU ALL!!

August 22, 2016

Hello It's Me.....

Hey everyone!! I hope everyone had a magical
week because mine was pretty good!
This week lots of things happened!
First Brazil won against Germany in soccer so I'm happy!
I think if they would of lost I would be dead!
Everyone here thinks I'm from Germany so it's kind of weird
but hey I'll just learn to live with it!
I think our house is a zoo! It's pretty awesome!!
Every day we come home we find a new animal or some giant bug
in our house, and hey admission is free!

This week Felipe was baptized!!! YAYYYY!!!
Felipe was just a person waiting to find the missionaries!
He's only know the church for one week and he goes to seminary every day!
The only bad news was that they drained the pool:(
We don't get to baptize there anymore.
So this week we baptized in a giant bucket. It only took 4 tries!!!

Me and Elder Rocha are working hard here,
I think we learned a little patience this week.
This week we got alot of no´s,
but it's okay we only baptize the people that say YES!
Always working hard here and learning new things.
Love it!

Love you all!

August 15, 2016

Hey everyone!!! How's things up there in America?
I hear America is getting richer and richer every day!
All people talk about here is how many gold medals America has.
I also hope all the children are enjoying their last days
of freedom before school starts again!

This week was quite the adventure! Lots has happened!
To start off last Monday me and Elder Rocha were just enjoying our p-day
and then the phone rang... So it ended up there was an emergency transfer
so now I am the District leader. So this week was lots of work!
I have more things to do now than I have ever had in my life,
but I think it's pretty fun!

Monday night after we got home from a little work
there was a cat in our house.
We chased it out, but I later found out it peed on my bag.. I was so mad. So I think it be best that,
that cat doesn't make another visit to our house. haha!

This week we also had the baptism of Angela!
She is the cousin to our other investigator Paloma that we baptized last week!
She is awesome! We have been teaching her for a little while
now and her baptizm was Sunday! She is really shy and an easy going person,
but what a blessing this gospel is in our lifes! It's so cool being out here every day
and helping people. It's definitely  not the easiest thing I've ever done but it's so worth it!
I love it here!

Lots of things happening in Brasil, always busy here!
The Lord is in the work!
Love you all!

August 8, 2016

Hey everyone!!! Hope life is good!
Hope everyone is soaking up that summer sun!

This week was great and to make today even better,
I got to ride on a bus with air conditioner so that was a pretty neat experience!
Not to much has gone on this week. Me and Elder Da Rocha have just been working pretty hard.
We have made it a focus lately to work as hard as we possible can,
talk to as many people as we possibly can
and follow the rules perfectly!
We have had so much success when we have done this
so we are just trying to continue on with it!

This week something pretty funny happened!
So we were walking down the street and we stopped to talk to this lady,
we then soon found out she was blind. She was so funny though.
She could not get over the fact that I was an American that lives in Brasil.
Every five seconds she would say.. "Say your name say your name!!"
I would say "Elder Orton" She would just freak out.
AHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHH "Say it again"
Ah people here are just so funny!

This week we were also standing on the street corner
and two guys pulled up on a motercycle and just started to beat the crap
out of another guy,  we decided it would be better to walk the other direction.

Hope everyone is just loving life and living it to the fullest!
Always remeber who you are and chose the right, and don't forget to feed the missionaries!
Love you all!

August 1, 2016

Hey everyone!!
It's August already! Hope everyone is loving life!
This week was so good! It was a week a miracles!

This week we had the baptizm of Paloma. It was awesome.
We only met Paloma last sunday.
When we were teaching a lesson to our investigator Ana,
Paloma and her mom showed up at her house.
It turns out that Paloma is cousins with our investigator Ana.
We started talking to Missalane (Palomas mom) and it turns out
she has been a member her whole life, but just has been inactive for most of her life.
She told us everything and how her family is getting destroyed.
I dont think it was a coincidence  we met. We met with them everyday
this week and she is so excited about church again.
It's crazy how the Lord knows all of his children so personally.
He waits until just the right moment when we need him most and lifts us up again.
She talked about how she wants her daughter to get baptized
so we talked to the mission president and had her baptized this week.
It was so awsome Sunday! We brought their whole family to the baptism!
This week we brought 16 people to church!
A week of miracles for sure!

So awesome to be here and see how the Lord works!
I know He loves all his children so personally and hopes
for us so badly to choose the right and do the things we need
to so he can help us in our lives!
He is always there waiting ,just waiting for us, so don't forget that!
Love you all!!! Elder O.

 Baptism of Paloma
I also managed to take a picture in the street without getting stabed or robbed so I'm pretty happy!:)
